Welcome to a space where we work together to create a tailored mental health plan for school-wide wellness.

Why It Matters

Every school community works intentionally towards supporting students with a wide range of needs including social, emotional, physical, and educational. School communities strive to enhance learning and teaching approaches to work toward the goal of acquiring the best educational outcomes possible for each student.

Research has shown that supporting the mental health and wellness of students increases the educational outcome for each student. Students who have access to mental health support and are provided with regular social-emotional learning opportunities are more likely to succeed academically and have a stronger sense of belonging and purpose.

Weaving this into the school community along side cultural diversity sensitivity and a faith-based foundation, sets the stage for a flourishing school community.

Initiate works with school administrators and staff to tackle the complex mental health situations that are currently being experienced. With you as the expert in your school’s unique situation, Initiate School Wellness prioritizes listening and seeking to understand your school’s situation before working together to set goals and objectives.

Key resources in guiding and promoting the development of your school’s mental health and wellness program are School Mental Health Ontario, CASEL, Panorama, ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International).  Initiate Consultants continually seek current evidence-based strategies and provide resources and supports that are relevant to each school’s identified needs and strengths within their school community.

MA CYC RSW
Founder & Executive Consultant

A key passion of mine is to walk alongside staff, school leadership and administrators, as they develop the mental health and wellness program for their school. Seeing the good work each school is already engaged in and building from its resources; schools can make the influential impact they are hoping for in each student.

Encouraging and motivating positive change within systems to further nurture children and youth is at the core of the consultative support available.  Equally important is highlighting the impact of early intervention as it promotes mental health and wellness.  This allows schools to become a positive launching point for so many children.

Together, we will take time to consider the strengths and present challenges of the school and seek proactive, preventative strategies.  We will consider resources that are available in your community, accessible online and in person.  Throughout the consultation process, you can expect to feel a sense of direction and forward motion as you navigate the steps toward incorporating mental health strategies and initiatives in your school.

“Marge was instrumental in providing an intentional focus on mental health to support our students by implementing schoolwide systems and programs. We couldn’t have made it there without her. I am so grateful for her support and expertise.”

— Kevin Bouwers Principal, Providence Christian School

“Our schools have a heart for students and their social and emotional wellbeing.  Marge has expertly leveraged that motivation to move us beyond intentions to actual results. By supporting students, staff, and admin in implementable and achievable ways, students have grown individually as has our school culture.”

— Kevin Huinink Executive Director, Cairn Christian Schools
